San Tan Valley's Lana Fischer Among 12 Southeast Valley Girl Scouts Honored with Prestigious Gold Awards

The Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council (GSACPC) has awarded its highest accolade, the Gold Award, to 12 exceptional young women from the Southeast Valley, recognizing their outstanding community service projects and commitment to addressing critical societal issues. Among these remarkable recipients is Lana Fischer of San Tan Valley, whose dedication and leadership in revitalizing a historical trail has not only preserved a piece of local heritage but also enhanced educational opportunities for fellow Girl Scouts.

Lana Fischer's project, "The Promise Trail - A Piece of History," focuses on the restoration of a beloved pathway at the Girl Scout's Shadow Rim Ranch. Witnessing the trail's deterioration over time, Lana embarked on a mission to restore its accessibility and historical significance. Her initiative included designing new educational signs displaying the Girl Scout Promise and Law, clearing overgrown blackberry bushes, and researching the trail's forgotten history. These enhancements have reinvigorated the trail, making it a rich educational resource for young scouts and a testament to Lana's leadership and commitment to service.

A Girl Scout for over 13 years, Lana's project exemplifies the core values of the scouting community—courage, confidence, and character. "Being a Girl Scout has shaped me into the person I am proud to be today," says Lana, who is currently a student at Poston Butte High School and aspires to pursue higher education.

The Gold Award is presented to Girl Scouts who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through sustainable and measurable community service projects. This year's recipients from the Southeast Valley have addressed a wide range of issues from mental and physical health, sustainability, and animal welfare, to gender bias and educational disparities.

"Gold Award Girl Scouts set the gold standard in our community," says Mary Mitchell, co-CEO of GSACPC. "These young women are not only making a lasting impact but are also paving the way for their futures in academics and careers."

Co-CEO Christina Spicer adds, "This is just the beginning for these young innovators. Their achievements distinguish them in scholarship applications, college admissions, and future job interviews, setting them apart as leaders who are capable of making meaningful change."

As the community celebrates these young leaders, the impact of their projects continues to resonate across the Southeast Valley and beyond, illustrating the powerful role that Girl Scouts play in fostering community engagement and leadership among young women. Lana Fischer and her fellow Gold Awardees are indeed setting a shining example for their peers and generations to come.
