A San Tan Valley home was completely destroyed in a fire on Tuesday, which officials say was caused by two men illegally burning trash in a nearby vacant lot. The Pinal County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the men, identified as Gerardo Contreras Chavez, 25, and Sergio Contreras, 56, have been arrested following the incident.

The fire occurred near Pava Lane and Rolling Ridge Road in San Tan Valley. Local authorities were alerted by neighbors who witnessed the men burning trash and weeds. The fire quickly spread from the lot to the adjacent home, engulfing it completely. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the home was declared a total loss.

Sheriff Mark Lamb addressed the media, stating, "This devastating incident is a stark reminder of the dangers associated with fire, especially during the current fire season. We've experienced substantial rainfall recently, which has unfortunately left a lot of fuel on the ground." Sheriff Lamb also reiterated that there is an ongoing burn ban in the unincorporated areas of Pinal County, which the men violated.

Rural Metro Fire San Tan Valley firefighters responded promptly to the scene and successfully prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring homes. According to officials, the quick action of the fire department and alert neighbors played a critical role in containing the damage.

After the fire became uncontrollable, the two men fled the scene. Alert neighbors were able to direct the police to the residence the suspects retreated to, leading to their prompt arrest. They have been booked into the Pinal County jail on multiple charges, including arson.

Sheriff Lamb emphasized the importance of adhering to fire safety regulations and the current burn ban, reminding residents that such regulations are in place to protect both property and human life.
