Pinal County Set to Resume Open Burning Permits Sept 28, 2023

Residents of San Tan Valley can mark their calendars for the upcoming resumption of open burning permits. Starting on Thursday, September 28th, Pinal County Air Quality will recommence the issuance of these permits. All permits issued will be effective from October 1st.

These permits specifically allow residents to dispose of plant material that originates from the permittee's property, with burning being permitted only during restricted daytime hours.

Residents of "Area A", which includes Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, and San Tan Valley, should take note that an annual Burn Ban has been enforced from May 1st through September 30th. Consequently, any burning activities within this timeframe are strictly prohibited.

For areas outside of "Area A", the Burn Ban will stay in place until the arrival of the Monsoon rains, which are anticipated to help lessen the risk of fires. Residents are encouraged to check back for updates regarding this status.

It's essential to note that no residential open burning is permitted within the jurisdictions of the City of Maricopa or the Town of Florence. As a result, no residential open burning permits will be issued for these specific areas.

Application Restrictions:

Applications for burn permits will be denied if:

  • The application is received via fax or email.
  • The application includes prohibited materials.
  • The application is incomplete.

For those looking to apply, the recommended method is online. The application portal is available 24/7, making it convenient for residents. However, it's crucial to be aware that permits are only issued from Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The processing time may take up to 24 hours.

Residents can access the online application portal at Pinal County Citizen Access.

Stay informed and follow local guidelines to ensure the safety of the community and the preservation of our beautiful Pinal County environment.
